HOW TO TREAT COLD THAT HAS TURNED TO CONSTANT COUGH WHEN EXPOSED TO THE COLD WEATHER

When a cold turns into a persistent cough, especially when exposed to cold weather, it’s often due to increased sensitivity in the airways. Here are some tips to help manage the cough:

  1. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, like water, herbal tea, or warm broth, to thin out mucus and soothe your throat.

  1. Use a humidifier: Dry air can exacerbate coughs. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, helping to calm your airways.

  1. Wear warm clothing: Dress in layers to protect yourself from cold weather, which can trigger coughing fits.

  1. Avoid irritants: Stay away from smoke, dust, and strong odors, which can aggravate your cough.

  1. Try throat soothers: Lozenges, honey, or gargling with warm salt water can provide temporary relief.

  1. Consider over-the-counter medications: Cough suppressants or expectorants may help alleviate symptoms. However, consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication.

  1. Consult a doctor: If your cough persists or worsens, consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and guidance.

Some home remedies that might help include:

  • Drinking warm tea with lemon and honey
  • Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot water or a steam inhaler
  • Using a saline nasal spray to moisturize your nasal passages

If you experience any of the following, seek medical attention:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Fever over 102°F (39°C)
  • Coughing up blood or yellow or green mucus
